This training is concentrated on the number one troubleshooting tool for PROFIBUS networks. You will learn how to use the powerful features to identify errors, speed up maintenance, accelerate commissioning and optimise network performance.

About the Course

Learn how to use ProfiTrace in order to analyse, localise and solve PROFIBUS faults. With a hands-on approach the participants will put theory into practice.

ProfiTrace training falls under PROCENTEC training and forms the first module (morning session) of a PROCENTEC Product training day. The second module consists of training on ComBricks. Students have the option of attending both or one of the courses. If you feel that you are already comfortable with ComBricks, then you need only to come on the morning ProfiTrace course.

Course Duration

This course is completed in 0.5 days. It includes a theoretical and practical aspect. You will receive a certificate upon successful completion.


Class Numbers

Due to the technical nature of this course and our desire to see a maximum pass rate, we limit groups to a maximum of 8 people.

Course Outline and Certification

Theory subjects: Structure of ProfiTrace, ProfiCore Ultra, and PA Probe hardware, contents of the Troubleshooting Toolkits, software installation procedure, license structure, and upgrades, connecting the ProfiCore to a DP and PA network, live list (colours, ID numbers, names), the definition of statistics (retries, syncs, lost, etc.), the measurement principle of the bar graph and topology scan, DP and PA oscilloscope (termination problems, short circuits, noise, AC/DC), network-manager.

Practical exercises: Installing the software, license, and GSD files, live list, statistics.

Message recording: Recording messages, triggering, capturing, and filtering, saving, and exchanging files.

Signal analysis: Oscilloscope and bar graph, generating reports.

Others: Generating the network topology (passive and running installation), I/O, device testing with ProfiCaptain (passive and running installation).


It is most beneficial if the attendee has a technical qualification or good experience with or understanding of digital communications systems.

Occasional exposure to cabling PROFIBUS networks has been found to be insufficient in preparing potential candidates.

Therefore, as a guideline, potential candidates must:

Have a good command of the English language

Be able to understand and interpret technical ideas and systems

Understand the basics of communications and what it entails
