TAP CURIOUS – the perfect tool for monitoring, analysing, and fault fixing in real-time Ethernet networks. Delay, jitter, and CRC faults can be recorded and then quickly analysed and corrected or rectified respectively.
The device is integrated within the network to be analysed via its probe ports. TAP CURIOUS operates completely passively. This passivity ensures there is zero delays and the network is in no way influenced by TAP CURIOUS – data communication can be recorded without it being altered in any way.
As a result of its compact and durable plastic housing, the 150-gram device is not only suitable for work in laboratories but also for daily use in the field. TAP CURIOUS comes with a robust plastic case for safe transport.

On the front, TAP CURIOUS has a 4-pole plug with digital input and output. It enables useful trigger conditions to be created, for example, to specifically narrow down, find and rectify sporadically occurring faults. For example, an acoustic signaller that emits an alarm as soon as a fault occurs in the protocol can be attached to the digital output.
In addition to the digital output, there are also 5 freely-configurable LEDs available to optically show any occurrence of a faulty transmission directly on the device. The digital input for example ensures that recording can be started at any point in time.
TAP CURIOUS comes equipped with a wide range of filter functions that assist the specific search for specific values and therefore significantly reduce the amount of data to be analysed. Faults occurring in the network can thus be found quicker and eliminated.
TAP CURIOUS filter functions can be configurated easily and quickly via the graphic, browser-based user-interface of the TAP CURIOUS. Two modes ensure that the device meets every wish of beginners and experts alike.
Using TAP CURIOUS is incredibly easy. On the one hand, the device is integrated within the network by means of the RJ45 sockets between the two nodes to be analysed. On the other hand, TAP CURIOUS is connected to a PC or laptop via the GBit interface. Reading and evaluation of the tapped package data are then done via the freely-available Wireshark software. The supplied Wireshark plugin ensures a trouble-free connection between device and software.
In addition to the recording of faulty telegrams in the network by which TAP CURIOUS is installed between two devices (see Example A), TAP CURIOUS can also be used to specifically analyse data streams of a device to be found in the network (see Example B). In doing so, TAP CURIOUS records the frames directly before and directly after the device to be analysed. This enables the measurement of, amongst other things, the delay and jitter of the device and whether, for example, the device swallows or falsifies respectively telegrams.
